Tutoring and Mentoring Program begins in Chicago’s Edgewater Neighborhood

We are on target for beginning our tutoring and mentoring program in January. Our first ten girls have been identified from Chicago’s 48th ward where we are partnering with the area’s public school principals and teachers to identify girls in need of support. The student’s essay responses to us are filled with hopes and dreams for their future. With our intervention and your support we will change lives.

YOU: Your Child’s First Teacher-Little Village Program Begins

As part of PCO’s community outreach effort, we have begun an innovative after-school program in the Little Village community to empower pregnant and parenting teens, ages 13-18, with the knowledge and skills necessary to become successful parents. The program will be tailored to meet the needs and interest of the participants with the goal of sharing information and resources that will support infant and child health, nutrition, growth and learning. This 50-week program will be located at St. Agnes of Bohemia.

Sunny Penedo Chico appears on Comcast Newsmakers Chicago to discuss Penedo Charitable Organization. This segment highlights the story behind the charity's formation, its mission, and goals, Sunny describes the organization's tutoring and mentoring program that began at Perice Elementary School with ten, 6th grade girls through collaboration with Chicago Public School Principals in the Edgewater community.

The program will air on CNN Headline News on June 7, 2010, at five minutes before the hour, throughout the day.
